Position: Legal Intern (Summer 2013)
Location: Savannah, GA – Eastern Judicial District
Deadline: March 31, 2013

The Office of the Public Defender, Eastern Judicial Circuit (Chatham County) seeks to host six summer law student interns. Interns must be rising 2L’s or 3L’s. Interns will gain first-hand experience in criminal defense and client representation. Interns will: observe every aspect of criminal court proceedings at the Recorder’s Court and Superior Court level; participate in trial preparation and strategy meetings with trial attorneys; develop and prepare an appellate case; and complete general legal research projects.

The 10-week internship will begin Monday, June 3, 2013 and end Friday, August 9, 2013. The Office of the Public Defender, EJC, is located in downtown Savannah, GA within walking distance to the Chatham County courthouse. The internship is unpaid. Accepted interns are encouraged to seek out grant funding for pro bono student workers assisting non-profit law entities.

Student applicants will be considered on a rolling basis during the month of February. Invitations to participate in the intern program will be made in March. For purposes of the legal writing sample, please note whether the piece has been reviewed with editing suggestions made by someone else, such as a professor.

Position: Extern/Intern
Location: GPDSC Central Appellate Division
Deadline: until positions are filled

Job Description and Requirements: The Appellate Division is currently seeking student externs and interns. Case work includes all aspects of criminal defense appellate work from jurisdictions across the state of Georgia. Students will work on both the administrative and litigation aspects of indigent appeals under the supervision of experienced attorneys.
