W. Travis Sakrison, Executive Director
Appointed by Governor Nathan Deal in January 2011, W. Travis Sakrison is Executive Director of the Georgia Public Defender Standards Council. GPDSC is a statewide public defender organization created to ensure that indigent criminal defendants receive adequate, effective, timely, and ethical legal representation, consistent with the guarantees of the Constitution of the U.S., Georgia, and the mandates of the Georgia Indigent Defense Act of 2003.
From 2006 to 2010, Mr. Sakrison served as a Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney in DeKalb County, where he oversaw the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force and Asset Forfeiture units. He was a Chief Senior Assistant District Attorney for Fulton County, from 2001 until 2006. He also served as an attorney for the Governor’s Office of the Consumers’ Insurance Advocate of Georgia and as a Senior Staff Attorney for Georgia Court of Appeals Judge John J. Ellington.
Mr. Sakrison earned his J.D. from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1998. He and his wife Marcy live in Atlanta with their children.
