Mears and Rhinehart sitting in discussion in front of bookshelves of law books
Newly appointed Director of the Office of the Mental Health Advocate, Sabrina Rhinehart, discusses her new responsibilities with GPDSC Director Mike Mears.

Congratulations to Sabrina Rhinehart who has just been named the Director of the Office of the Mental Health Advocate (OMHA) for the Georgia Public Defender Standards Council. Sabrina has been with the Council since November 1999 (formally Georgia Indigent Defense Council) as an attorney assisting the Mental Health clientele. Sabrina received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Georgia State University in Criminal Justice in 1990. In 1994 Sabrina graduated from the University of Georgia Law School and completed internships that included the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office Juvenile Division, DeKalb County District Attorney’s office felony division and the Fulton County Municipal Court. Upon graduation Sabrina began her career as an Assistant Public Defender in Houston County in Perry, Georgia. Sabrina later returned to Atlanta accepting a position as an Assistant Public Defender for Fulton County Defender of the Indigent Felony Division. Sabrina went on to work in Private Practice for two years focusing on Criminal Defense, Family Law and Personal Injury.

As Director, Sabrina plans to continue offering the outstanding support to Criminal Defense Attorneys statewide who are representing clients tangled in the criminal and mental health systems simultaneously. In addition, OMHA shall continue to monitor Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity cases and be a resource to the legal and mental health community statewide.
